Please check the South African Department of Home Affairs Website for information on applying for a visa. Note that a visitor’s visa is the visa type required to attend a conference (not a work visa).

If you need a visa, please send us proof of payment for the conference and your accommodation and we will send you a letter of invitation.

Use this handy checklist to ensure the visa process runs smoothly:

South Africa Visitor Visa Application Checklist

☐ Check if you need a visa (some nationalities are visa-exempt).

☐ Completed visa application form (BI-84).

☐ Valid passport (at least 30 days after departure, with 2 blank pages).

☐ Two recent passport-sized photos.

☐ Proof of financial means (bank statements, payslips, etc.).

☐ Proof of payment for conference and accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter).

☐ Return or onward flight ticket.

☐ Proof of travel insurance (if required).

☐ Visa fee payment receipt.

☐ Yellow fever vaccination certificate (if applicable).

☐ Submit application at nearest South African Embassy/Consulate.

☐ Allow 5–15 working days for processing (apply at least 4–6 weeks before travel).

☐ Prepare documents to show on arrival: proof of funds, return ticket, accommodation.

While Wi-Fi is available at the Skukuza Conference Centre and certain public areas within the rest camp (e.g., Lodge and Restaurant), coverage and speed are limited. Delegates should expect basic connectivity suitable for emails and light browsing, but not for high-bandwidth activities such as video streaming or large file uploads. For those requiring more reliable access, mobile data through local networks such as Vodacom or MTN generally offers better performance, though coverage may still vary within the park. We recommend that delegates bring their own mobile hotspot or SIM card as a backup and download any essential materials in advance.

South African plug points are different to those found elsewhere in the world.  Remember to bring along a universal adapter that you can use to charge your laptops, batteries etc.  South African plug points are three-pin, rounded plugs.  South African plug points take plug types C, D, M & N – although type N is not very common.  Please click on the link below to see pictures of the South Africa plug point requirements.  Click here to see SA plug points.

October in Skukuza marks the transition from the dry winter to the warm summer season, bringing pleasantly warm days and the first hints of rain. Delegates can expect daytime temperatures averaging between 28°C and 32°C, with early mornings and evenings being comfortably mild, around 16°C to 20°C. Occasional afternoon thunderstorms may occur as humidity begins to rise, but most days remain sunny and ideal for outdoor activities such as game drives. Light, breathable clothing is recommended for daytime, with a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings.

• As Kruger is a low-risk malaria area, we advise consulting a travel clinic to determine whether malaria prophylaxis is needed.

• Sun protection: Hat or cap, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen — the Lowveld sun can be strong even in spring.
• Clothing: Light, breathable clothing for warm daytime temperatures, and a light jacket or fleece for cooler mornings and evenings.
• Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes for moving around the camp or excursions; closed shoes are recommended for restaurants and evening events.
• Dining & Networking: Smart-casual attire is ideal — jackets are optional and ties not required.
• Safari & Sightseeing: Neutral-coloured clothing for game drives, along with binoculars and a camera to capture the wildlife.
• Extras: Personal medication, insect repellent, international plug adapters, and your outfit for our Gala Dinner – more will be revealed closer to the date!

Tip: Skukuza’s October weather is typically warm and sunny, with occasional afternoon showers — pack for comfort in both sunshine and a touch of rain.

South Africa uses the Rand (ZAR). For current exchange rates please visit http://www.xe.com/.  Unfortunately, foreign currency is not accepted at the registration desk for payments, but there will be credit card facilities.  If you wish to change money, there are Bureaux de Change at the airports.

International and local delegates attending conferences in South Africa are strongly encouraged to obtain comprehensive personal and/or travel insurance before arrival. While South Africa offers high-quality private healthcare and professional services, these can be costly without adequate cover. Appropriate insurance helps protect against unexpected medical expenses, travel disruptions, loss of personal belongings, or other unforeseen events, ensuring peace of mind and allowing participants to focus fully on their conference experience.
