The 21st International Symposium
Deep Seismic Profiling of the Continents and their Margin5 – 9 OCT 2026 | SKUKUZA, KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Invitation to Participate
On behalf of the Wits Seismic Research Centre of the School of Geosciences, Wits University we would like to cordially invite you to participate in the 21st edition of the International Symposium on Deep Seismic Profiling of the Continents and their Margins (SEISMIX 2026). The symposium is a continuation of the series first hosted by Cornell University in 1984. It will be held in the Kruger National Park at the Skukuza Conference Centre, called the Nombolo Mdhluli Conference Centre. Starting on Sunday 4 October with preconference events, to Wednesday 7 October, the final day of the conference. An exciting 2-day field trip follows the conference from 8-9 October which includes visits to some of the world’s deepest mine sites where important seismic surveys have been acquired, as well as natural points of interest.
Skukuza, the largest rest camp in the world-renowned Kruger National Park, will serve as the venue for SEISMIX 2026. Situated along the Sabie River, Skukuza offers a unique blend of natural beauty, comfort, and accessibility. Delegates will have the opportunity to experience South Africa’s iconic wildlife and landscapes while engaging in a dynamic programme of talks, posters, and discussions.
The weather in October is typically warm and pleasant, with clear skies and mild evenings — ideal for informal networking and conversation after the day’s sessions. The conference sessions will be hosted at the Skukuza Conference Centre, a modern facility surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the bush.
For your convenience, delegates can register and book their accommodation, airport transfers, field trips etc, in our ‘one-stop-shop’ registration process. Accommodation options range from comfortable rondavels to luxury lodge suites. An icebreaker bush dinner, boma dinner and themed gala dinner, all included in the registration fee, will offer memorable opportunities to connect under the African night sky.
